Dentsply Sirona ensure quality at each step of Xylocaine's product journey from collection of active molecule till it reaches your dental practice. Each cartridge is twice sterilized with sterilizing filter followed by autoclave method. Cartridges are then visually inspected with electronic laser for defects and impurities including but not limited to cracks, foreign particles, colour and density. Each cartridge is Mylar pack labeled to restrain the individual pieces in case of a break thus avoiding any injuries. Each set of 10 cartridges is then blister packed to avoid breakage. Each cartridge is colour coded as per industry standard.
In case of infiltration onset duration is less than 2 minutes with soft tissue anaesthesia lasting 2.5 hours to 3.25 hours for infiltration and nerve block respectively. Xylocaine is contra indicated in patients who are hypersensitive to local anesthetics. Xylocaine should not be used in patients with congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia. Common precautions include aspiration prior to injection to help avoid intravascular injection. Local anaesthetic solutions like Xylocaine that contain a vasoconstrictor should be used cautiously especially in patients with impaired cardiovascular function or vascular disease.
Lignocaine is classed as a membrane stabilising agent, and is a local anaesthetic of the amide type. Lignocaine stabilises the neuronal membrane and reversibly prevents the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses thereby producing local anaesthesia. The onset and duration of anaesthesia depend on the route of administration and the dosage (volume and concentration) employed. The addition of adrenaline reduces the rate of absorption of lignocaine from the site of injection, thereby increasing the duration of action.
