LMX4 Lidocaine Cream is a topical anesthetic used to numb the skin before medical procedures, enhancing comfort and effectiveness.

Key Benefits of LMX4:

  • Fast Acting: Starts working within 30 minutes.
  • Well-Tolerated: Generally causes few side effects.
  • Long-Lasting: Effective for up to 5 hours.

Packaging Information:

  • Available in 5g and 30g tubes.
  • Tubes are made from aluminum and fitted with a polyethylene cap.

Storage: Keep below 25°C.

Ingredients:

  • Benzyl Alcohol
  • Carbomers
  • Cholesterol
  • Phospholipon 80H (Hydrogenated Soy Lecithin)
  • Polysorbate 80 (Tween 80)
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Trolamine
  • Vitamin E Acetate
  • Purified Water

Administration Instructions:

  • Suitable for adults, the elderly, and children over one month of age.
  • Apply 1g to 2.5g of cream to cover an area of 2.5cm x 2.5cm (6.25cm²) for procedures such as venipuncture or venous cannulation. For infants under 1 year, use no more than 1g of cream.
  • 1g of cream equals approximately 5cm from the 5g tube or 3.5cm from the 30g tube.
  • A dressing can be used to keep the cream in place. Numbness should occur within 30 minutes.

Precautions:

  • For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes to prevent severe irritation. Wash eyes immediately if contact occurs, and always wash hands after application.
  • Propylene glycol may cause skin irritation. Discontinue use if irritation persists.
  • Avoid applying to raw, blistered, or irritated skin.
  • Overuse can increase blood levels of lidocaine, with symptoms like blurred vision, dizziness, or irregular heartbeat possible. Use with caution if combined with other anesthetics.

Dosage: Do not exceed 2 applications per 24 hours.

Drug Interactions:

  • Use with caution if taking Class I antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g., tocainide, mexiletine) due to additive toxic effects.
  • Drugs that reduce lidocaine clearance (e.g., cimetidine, beta-blockers like propranolol) may lead to toxic levels if lidocaine is used in high doses over long periods.

Use During Pregnancy and Lactation:

  • Lidocaine crosses the placental barrier and should be used during pregnancy only if necessary. It is also secreted in breast milk, so caution is advised for breastfeeding mothers.

Note: No mutagenic effects were observed in studies.
